GenTabs (in Google Disco) is a feature that turns a set of open tabs into a custom, task-oriented experience. Instead of just summarizing, it creates a structured output—like a plan, comparison matrix, or memo—based on your tabs.
Tab groups simply organize your browser tabs. GenTabs uses the content of those tabs to generate a new, useful document or interface for you.
Yes. Google Labs features like Disco typically require a personal Google account and are often limited to specific regions (like the US) during the preview phase.
We recommend picking a concrete goal from our Use Cases. It will tell you exactly which tabs to open and provide the prompt to run.
Gentabs AI is an independent educational hub. We provide expert-crafted prompt packs, how-to guides, and updates for GenTabs. We are also building our own LLM-based prototype inspired by these workflows.
No. Gentabs AI is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Google.
Yes. All our guides, use cases, and prompt packs are free to use. Future advanced features (like our hosted prototype) may have optional premium tiers.
Browse our Prompt Library or Use Cases. Copy the prompt, open your tabs, and paste the prompt into your AI tool.
Yes. While designed for GenTabs, our prompts work well in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. You just need to manually provide the source text or links since those tools can't 'see' your open tabs automatically.
A good prompt defines a clear output structure (e.g., 'a table with columns X, Y, Z'), requires specific citations, and sets constraints on length and tone.
LLMs can vary by run. To improve consistency, use our 'Force Citations' prompts and try to provide cleaner input tabs (close irrelevant ones).
Use the command: 'Use ONLY the open tabs. Link each claim to a source URL. Mark any info without a source as [Uncertain].' Our prompt packs include this by default.
Ask for a 'Source Map' in the output. If the AI cannot point to a specific URL for a fact, it should omit it or flag it. Explicitly instructing it to 'admit what isn't found' drastically reduces made-up info.
Not yet. It is an experimental feature in Google Labs / Disco. Availability changes often. Check your Labs settings.
You can express interest via the Google Labs waitlist. Note that we (Gentabs AI) cannot grant access to Google's tools.
Yes. Our Prototype (in progress) aims to offer a similar 'tabs-to-action' experience using your own API keys or local LLMs.
No. We do not have access to your browser. Your data remains in your browser or your chosen LLM provider.
